The basic rationale of taping is to provide protection and support to an injured part while permitting optimal functional movements. It is an essential rehabilitation tool which enhances healing by allowing early activity within carefully controlled ranges.
It permits an early return to sport/competition/ day-to -day activities by protecting the area from further injury, and avoiding compensatory injury elsewhere.
Benefits of Taping :
- Circulation is enhanced through movements.
- Swelling is controlled
It prevents:
1. Compensatory injury to adjacent parts.
2. Disuse atrophy.
3. Worsening of initial injury.
It allows:
1. Continued body conditioning and strength which is often lost during post-injury inactivity
2. Maintenance of ability to react, which is often lost due to inhibitive factors (pain, fear of re-injury)
